Brief

“Make them feel like they’re something bigger. That they have someone to reach out to, and there are lots of people to reach out to! Make them feel part of a team. Knowledge sharing and reaching out to each other is something they need to value.  Love to build trust and real connection.”

Solution

The Hastings Deering team were made up of people from various and separate locations across the Solomon Islands, French Polynesia, and other Asia Pacific areas. They were brought together for a weekend of getting to know each other and the larger organisation. Hastings Deering were committed to informing all of their employees that were part of a larger organisation and one that cared about the experience of its employees. 

As these teams had spent the past few days working together, listening to keynote speakers, and living amongst each other they were already collaborating effectively. However, we created a challenge that rewarded the team who were able to get back to the presentation room first. When the time came to return to the presentation room the teams were not arriving when expected. We discovered that as a group they had decided to all arrive at the same time to null and void the additional points for the final challenge.

From this we learnt that group cohesion is an important element of large team building events. While we focus on individual teams working together our games are also able to facilitate cohesion across the larger group as a whole. Fostering a “no person left behind” culture is essential for large companies to help each and every employee feel valued.

The Hustle allows for an active and fun outlet for people to practise not only their creative skills but also builds an awareness that their work colleagues, friends, and employers care about them.
