“That Was Way Better Than We Expected” – Why Do People Think Team Building Will Disappoint?

We are not trying to toot our own horns here when we honestly say that “Whoa, that was way better than we expected” is the most common thing we hear after a Banana Life session. Are we setting incorrect expectations? Or is there a default expectation that team building will disappoint?

We’re willing to bet that it’s the latter. Don’t get us wrong, we aim to go over and above at Banana Life to encourage a fun atmosphere to help teams connect, but we have to ask, how low is the bar set?.

Why do we assume team building activities will suck?

Most people’s first thought when they hear “team-building activity” is possibly that thing where you all catch someone as they trust-fall from a table, right? Well, this is likely why the assumption that a team-building afternoon is nothing but a lame waste of time exists.

It makes sense; any sort of forced bonding or pushed camaraderie is likely to fail on paper. True positive relationships are meant to form organically. You can’t force the spark of a great team. Or can you…

How we avoid disappointment

The main benefit that we have is that we are not using the trust-fall chair technique at all. Not even close. In fact, the atmosphere we create in our virtual rooms is unlike any that most of our guests have experienced before.

This makes it very easy to pleasantly surprise people from the jump. From there, we allow them to let their hair down, have a little fun and forget about work. This is the key to forming organic relationships and all-around good times! The “team-building” aspect happens under the surface. Like a sleight-of-hand magic trick that no one sees coming.

Want to be surprised by our virtual team-building activities?

We know that all of the above seems like a Banana Life puff-piece but we swear you’ll be surprised by how fun a team-building session can be.

Get in touch for a demo and see if you end the session in a state of surprise. If you don’t we’ll print this article out and eat it!
