Case Study: Colin Biggers & Paisley – Murder Mystery Hustle at Terrigal

THE CLIENT

Colin Biggers & Paisley, a leading Australian law firm, was celebrating 125 years of excellence. As part of their annual ‘Summit’ conference, they brought together Special Counsel and Senior Associates for a few days of learning, innovation, and connection. This year, they wanted to make the most of Terrigal’s stunning surroundings—and the Murder Mystery Hustle was the perfect way to shake things up.

THE EVENT

  • What: Annual ‘Summit’ Conference
  • Activity: Murder Mystery Hustle – an interactive scavenger hunt
  • Where: Terrigal, NSW
  • Who: 65 senior legal professionals

This event wasn’t just about getting out of the conference room—it was about building stronger connections across teams, boosting collaboration, and injecting some fun into the mix.

THE EXPERIENCE

Eight teams hit the streets (and the sand) of Terrigal, completing a mix of creative challenges and problem-solving tasks—all while working to crack the case of a Beach Wedding Murder. The competition was fierce, with teams racing to collect clues, solve puzzles, and piece together what really happened.

Five teams managed to solve the case, uncovering the shocking truth: Groom Dickie Head had poisoned his former love with a lethal Amaretto Sour. But there was plenty more action along the way—teams also reenacted historical events, recreated The Circle of Life (featuring some very dramatic newborn performances), and even left a few locals scratching their heads with an intense Gallipoli reenactment.

In the end, The Toucan Cans took home the win, proving they had the perfect mix of brains, teamwork, and creativity. Meanwhile, Team Mitri—who incorrectly pinned the murder on the bride—came in last but still walked away with something valuable: stronger connections, better teamwork, and some hilarious memories.

IMPACT ON THE BUSINESS

Beyond the fun, this experience had real value for Colin Biggers & Paisley. The Murder Mystery Hustle brought people together in a way that simply doesn’t happen in a boardroom.

Lawyers from different teams—who might not work closely day-to-day—had to problem-solve, communicate, and rely on each other under pressure.

For a firm that thrives on collaboration, this kind of connection is crucial.

Stronger relationships mean better teamwork, more open communication, and ultimately, a more cohesive leadership group.

It’s these small but meaningful experiences that help break down silos and make it easier for teams to work together long after the event is over.
