Your Authentic Voice: Why You Should Not Care What Other People Think

Why You Should Not Care What Other People Think

Human beings share a form of collective insanity that is truly irrational and unproductive. We seem to have an obsession with what other people think of us, for some reason. It is here where we ignore our Authentic Voice.

This likely stems from an evolutionary behaviour that required us to be part of a tribe to survive. The tribe meant food and protection, and being accepted by our fellow tribe members was vital, especially when it came to those in positions of authority. Fitting in and pleasing those around us meant we could stay in the tribe.

From this, humans grew an over-the-top obsession with what others think, craving social approval and admiration. So why should we look to undo this conditioning?

The fear of social disapproval

Why do we feel weird about going to a restaurant alone? The highly insecure part of our brain that needs to be fed regularly with praise and approval takes a lot of work to maintain.

Society doesn’t help either; we’ve created accolades and titles that push the concept of acceptance prestige to satisfy this need. We work so hard to fit in, craving approval and ending up horrified at the thought of nonacceptance or ridicule. So much so that that we’ll do anything to avoid it.

This is all a barrier that prevents you from living with freedom and far less stress!

Neglecting your Authentic Voice

As we put so much thought and energy towards our acceptance needs, we often neglect our Authentic Voice.

Your Authentic Voice knows all about you. It is complex, hazy, evolving, and unafraid. It has its own moral code, formed by your experiences and has its own take on compassion and integrity. Your Authentic Voice makes use of the outside world by gathering information, learning from it and using it to help you make decisions.

Many of us will ignore our Authentic Voice, and instead, opt to listen to a strong opinion from some other confident person. Unfortunately, this leads to our Authentic Voice feeling irrelevant and can shrink, fade, and lose motivation.

The takeaway

If you can learn how to relish the feeling of being viewed as weird or confusing, society becomes your playground. Being driven by your authentic voice, and not the opinions of others, takes much less work and helps you form a more comfortable version of yourself.

Lessening your fears of others’ opinions and feeling more comfortable about trusting your Authentic Voice is the key to a much more comfortable life. So, it’s time to stop caring what other people think.
