Case Study: Hawaiian – Beach Olympics

We hosted our Beach Olympics in Broome, WA, to complement to theme of "Honour the Past, Embrace the Future"

THE CLIENT

Hawaiian is a vibrant company that prides itself on its strong internal culture and fostering meaningful connections across departments.

The company’s values of collaboration, passion, and fun are central to its work culture.

This year’s retreat theme, “Honour the Past, Embrace the Future,” was about celebrating the company’s accomplishments while looking for even greater success.

THE EVENT

  • What: Beach Olympics
  • Where: Broome Beach, Western Australia
  • Who: Hawaiian employees from all departments
  • Activity: Fun and competitive beach games designed to strengthen teamwork

THE EXPERIENCE

Teams were formed from a mix of departments, bringing together employees who don’t typically work closely. This diversity helped foster new relationships, fresh ideas, and a spirit of collaboration throughout the day.

The Beach Olympics activities included:

  • Slingshot Challenge: Teams competed to launch items into target zones using giant slingshots. This high-energy activity required precision, communication, and creativity as teams strategised and worked together to master the technique.
  • Speed Tag: A fast-paced game of tag that tested agility, quick thinking, and teamwork. 
  • Archery: This activity encouraged focus, patience, and precision. Teams competed to hit targets with archery bows, fostering a sense of accomplishment and allowing individuals to show off their concentration and skills.

Throughout the day, employees laughed, cheered, and supported one another—whether they were firing a slingshot, dodging during Speed Tag, or aiming for the bullseye in archery. It wasn’t just about winning; it was about coming together, enjoying the moment, and embracing the spirit of teamwork.

 

IMPACT ON THE BUSINESS

Hawaiian is already planning to make the Beach Olympics an annual tradition, building on the positive impact it had on the team.

The event demonstrated that when employees are allowed to connect, collaborate, and have fun, they return to the office with stronger bonds and a shared sense of purpose.

By continuing to honour the past and embrace the future, Hawaiiann will remain a company that values both its people and its long-term vision.
