5 Ways to Improve Connection In a Remote World

Reconnecting in a Post COVID Landscape

The past couple of months have been challenging. Each week brings new surprises, instability hangs in the air. It can be easy to forget to improve our connections in a remote world. It can be easy to put off social time because it will just mean more staring a screen.

But now, as we slowly recover (with fingers crossed) from a locked-down world, and reemerge back into a connected one. We might be left feeling a little stunned. Like we’ve forgotten how to be around people. Do we touch? Can we shake hands, elbow tap, hug?

Human face-to-face contact has no substitute. Screens and technology can facilitate meaningful connections as we have seen with the remote games we’ve been running. But the experience of being within the physical presence of each other allows us to communicate with our bodies, with our environment and be reminded of the joy of sharing space. This is where the meaningful conversation needs no facilitation.

So this article will give you 5 ways to improve connections in a remote world, or dare I say, post-remote world?

1. Grab The Picnic Blanket

As we move into August, especially in south-east Queensland we are beginning to say good-bye to Winter and hello to Spring. Cool brisk mornings with warm lunchtime sun make it the perfect time to grab the rub, some cards, and a cheese platter and have a picnic lunch. It need not cost much and can be organised with ease. It is also simple to socially distance yourself, and be in a wide-open area with minimum risk.

2. Howard Smith Wharves

One of Brisbane’s best nightlife hotspots have recently reopened; The Howard Smith Wharves. Beautifully renovated and refurbished to accommodate classy riverside drinks with a slightly nautical feel. Socially distant practises in place enable you to grab a beer or wine with the gang and pretend the last 3 months never happened.

3. Baedecker Wine Bar

Baedeker Wine Bar has recently reopened its doors to the wine connoisseurs of the city. A beautiful early 20th Century decor with a hidden wine cellar located behind a turning bookcase makes this a popular location for not only wine but mystery lovers. Throughout August they will also be hosting Cluedo: The Interactive Game during the evenings, a catered theatre show where you are Dr Black’s esteemed guests for the evening. What could possibly go wrong?

4. Victoria Park Golf Club

Another wonderful way to enjoy this nice open weather is a game of golf! Victoria Park Golf Club are back open and hosting weddings, engagements, group packages and of course as many rounds of golf as you can swing a club at. This premier venue is the perfect location to pack up the clubs and tee off with a group of friends.

5. Play@Home Escape Room

And of course, you are finally allowed to have guests over again! So why not celebrate post COVID restrictions with a play-at-home escape room game hosted by our platform?! Simply contact us and let us know when you plan on playing the game, have all team members download the app and print of the associated PDF files and you’re good to go. 1-2 hours of completing themed challenges, solving puzzles, and cracking codes to find out who at the party is the murderer!

In Conclusion

The drastic shift to a remote and isolated work lifestyle is starting to reveal both the positive and negative symptoms on wellness. A lot of employees feel positive about the shift with lower commute times and more autonomy. But some are finding it challenging, with screen burnout, feelings of more pressure to be productive, and increased levels of isolation. At the end of the communication is and always will be the most important element when establishing effective relationships.
